5 Most Popular Ferret Colors

Ferrets come in a variety of colors and patterns. Usually, potential ferret buyers base their decision on the colors of the ferrets that they want to purchase. The most usual colors of ferret are the albino, sable and cinnamon. Albino are the most popular ferrets since they resemble a pure snow white color and are deemed best in hunting. Moreover, sable ferrets come in different variations: the black sable, chocolate and champagne colors. These three colors, although belonging to one classification, have their own distinctions. And lastly, the cinnamon color, although they may be rare are still one of the top five ferret colors.

Despite the growing number of artificial ferret colors that may be available for purchase in the market, these five colors remain as the top five natural colors of ferrets. However, these colors do not necessarily show up right after the birth of the kits, and rather develop over time. There are even instances when the colors of the ferrets may change during seasonal transitions.

The first color, the albino, is the most popular among hunters. They prefer such color since it is much easier to spot after a hunt. In addition, pet owners also love albino ferrets simply because of their pure snow white coat. Besides having a white coat, albino ferrets also possess pink or red eyes.

The second color, the black sable, has an undercoat the color of cream or white and possesses guard hairs that are black. Consequently, their eyes are dark brown and black and their noses may have patches of brown on them. Perhaps the reason that people choose the black sable is for its glossy black coat, especially the best ones that contain absolutely no warm colors.

Another color of the sable is the chocolate sable which basically has brown chocolate color for its coat and a creamy one for its undercoat. This color is much warmer than the black sable and may be preferred by people with fainter hearts. The next sable color is the champagne color which is generally characterized by its lighter shades of chocolate. Its guard hairs have the color of tan or chocolate and its undercoat is colored cream or white. Consequently, its eyes can vary from light to dark burgundy and its nose is usually pink.

Last but not the least, the cinnamon colored ferret, although rare are still loved by many people. Its guard hairs are brown which may at times have reddish implications. Its coat can actually range from reddish brown to blonde. They possess legs and tails that have a slightly darker tone than their usual color. In addition, its eyes are light or sometimes dark burgundy. Its nose, on the other hand, can vary from beige, brown and pink.

These are only the top five colors of ferrets however there are many more that are available in the market. If you want to buy your own ferret, it is advisable then to first visit a ferret breeder to make sure that their colors are genuine and they have been properly bred. The colors of ferrets do not usually show up immediately after birth, so do not be surprised if the color that you have expected is not necessarily the same with the one that your ferret may have in the future. With all these, it is still important not to only base your judgment on the colors of the ferret but more importantly on their character and personality.
